Gaga出生于纽约的Yonkers，双亲为意大利人,小时候就读于名为the Sacred Heart的天主教学校，Hilton 姐妹和Caroline Kennedy都是他的校友。4岁时靠双耳聆听便学会钢琴弹奏，13岁写下第一首抒情创作曲，14岁就在公开场合中拿起麦克风演唱，17岁就被纽约大学音乐学系提前录取（提前录取的名额全世界只有20个）。仅20岁之龄就受到Interscope Records赏识，签入旗下帮歌手/团体写歌谱曲。

身为美国籍意大利人的她，曾经就读于一间私立的女子学校，其学校的名人还包括了时尚名媛Paris Hilton(帕丽斯·希尔顿)。小时候，她就常常跟着卡带哼起了，Michael Jackson(迈克尔·杰克逊)和Cyndi Lauper的歌。到了四岁那年，她凭著自己的耳朵自学起了钢琴并在年少时期创作了第一首歌曲。在十四岁那年，她第一次向世界展示了自己美妙的歌喉，从此便踏上了自己的星路。

其风格明显受到经典华丽摇滚歌手如Queen、David Bowie和1980年代POP歌手如Madonna 和Michael Jackson影响。其艺名Lady GaGa就是由皇后乐队的一首大热歌曲《Radio Gaga》的谐音而来。
