EPLAN Platform 2024: Exciting New Features Await Users
At the Hannover Fair in Germany, EPLAN gave a glimpse of the forthcoming software version. The last two versions of the EPLAN platform brought a modernised user interface and better performance for 2D and 3D planning. The announcement of EPLAN Platform 2024 promises even more upgrades to enhance user experience. Here are four new features to anticipate.
Calculation and Comparison of Block Properties
The block properties function enables users to link simple objects, such as motors or circuit breakers, within a circuit diagram. The upcoming Platform 2024 will include a calculation feature that allows for the calculation of different block properties and their comparison. This feature will aid in the determination of protection devices and cable sizes based on defined loads. AccessoriesAccessories are now fully supported in Harness proD and are completely compatible with the EPLAN Platform and project exchange. All accessories of a part are now exported and imported along with the part. The EPLAN import panel now displays pins and has an option for placing accessories graphically or non-graphically. New tables are available in nailboards and cable drawings for listing the accessories of a specific part and of all parts. Lastly, a new report type Accessory report has been added. Path InterpolationUsers can now choose between two different styles of interpolation for wires, cables, bundles, twists and surface protections in the workspace as well as the workdesk. These can be set in the command bar during placement, or in the properties bar for objects already placed. With interpolation set to spline, the object will pass through control points. If the interpolation is set to rounded corners, a bending radius can be set. The object then follows a straight-line path between two control points, and bends with the given radius around any middle control points. TwistsA new object type "Twist" is available in Studio. Twists function similarly to bundles, in that other wires, cables, bundles, etc. can be routed through them. However, twists have a new property "Twist factor", which determines how much the twist increases the content's length. For example, 15 cm of wire can fit into just 10 cm of twist with a twist factor of 1.5. Twists must contain at least two objects to be valid. A new task has been added to check for invalid twists. New Part CategoriesThree part categories are new in Harness proD: Sensors, Switches and Pushbuttons, Relays and Contactors, and Signal Devices. They are fully supported in Library, Studio and in exchange with the EPLAN Platform. New LanguagesHarness proD is now available in three new languages: Spanish, Korean and Turkish. Workspace, Workdesk templatesTemplates can now be created for workspaces and workdesks. These store data about the document's settings, translation editor's settings, and optionally user-defined properties. Text alignmentTexts can now be aligned to the left, center, and right. This alignment is fully compatible with exports and imports. Replacing Ribbon CablesThe last library part category which could not be replaced in Studio, the ribbon cables, can now be replaced. This means they can also be updated to the latest Library versions with the Update parts from Library function. Formula EditorThe Formula editor is now also available for text fields in Studio. Additionally, a new node in the settings for the workspace and the workdesk called Tree view item name templates allows users to use the Formula editor to customize tree view item names according to a formula. Navigation CubeAn interactive navigation cube can be displayed in the workspace for easier manipulation of the 3D environment. Cable End Point OffsetCables placed automatically by the EPLAN import panel are placed with a user-defined distance from connectable objects. Constraint PreservationConstraints are now preserved during replacement and the Update parts from Library function. And various other small improvements and bug fixes.EPLAN Harness proD is a unique stand-alone easy-to-use solution, which enables you to create 3D wire harnesses, 2D nailboards, cable drawings, and reports efficiently and fast. This environment enables you to not only create wire harnesses, but also to include additional documentation in the project like e-mails, PDF files, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, etc. Studio is furthermore capable of containing multiple variants, workspaces, workdesks, nailboards, cable drawings, and reports and provides total control over all project-related files.
