Simics 4.0.63 | 569.3 mb
Wind River, a global leader in delivering software for mission-critical intelligent systems, has has unveiled Simics 4.0.63 is a full-system simulator used by software developers to simulate the hardware of complex electronic systems.
Release Notes for Simics 4.0 Revision 2503 New Features of Simics 4.0 This release represents a major new version of the Simics product family. This section provides a high-level summary of the changes.
Major Changes and New Features
Multithreaded execution
Simics can now under certain circumstances utilize multiple concurrent execution threads to speed up the simulation. See the Simulation Performance chapter in the Advanced Features of Simics manual and the Simics 4.0 Porting Guide for more information.
Page-Sharing
Simics can now detect identical RAM, ROM, flash and disk pages within and across simulated targets running in Simics. Detected identical pages are replaced with single copy and consequently reduces the amount of host memory Simics uses. This is an optional feature. See the Simulation Performance chapter in the Advanced Features of Simics manual for more information.
Processor API
The Simics API has been extended to support user-defined processor models. See the Simics Processor API application note in the Simics Model Builder package for more information.
Eclipse
Plugins provided for using Simics from an Eclipse framework. For more information see the Simics Eclipse User Guide
Integration with Wind River Workbench
New Eclipse plugins for the Wind River Workbench IDE that can be used to launch and control Simics simulations.
Improved DML Debuggability
The DML compiler can emit C code that is easier to read and debug. For more information, refer to the DML documentation in the Model Builder package.
Graphical Memory Browser
New simple memory viewer and memory space browser added in the GUI.
Graphical Performance Meter
A graphical performance meter, showing the performance of the simulator itself was added in the GUI.
Telnet Access to Command Line
Support for connecting to a running Simics session using telnet was added.
Improved Unicode Support
Simics can properly handle non-ASCII Unicode characters in filenames and strings.
Python 2.5
The Python interpreter embedded in Simics has been upgraded to version 2.5. For more information visit the
http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5/ web page.
Updated Host Requirements
The Solaris version of Simics requires Solaris 9 or newer. The Linux version requires Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or a compatible distribution.
Simics is a full-system simulator used by software developers to simulate the hardware of complex electronic systems. Simics allows on-demand and easy access to any target system, more efficient collaboration between developers, and more efficient and stable automation. With Simics you can adopt new development techniques that are simply not possible with physical hardware, enabling you to deliver better software faster.
Getting Started with Simics Wind River, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel Corporation, is a world leader in embedded and mobile software. Wind River has been pioneering computing inside embedded devices since 1981 and its technology is found in more than 500 million products. Wind River is headquartered in Alameda, Calif. with offices in more than 15 countries.
ALAMEDA, Calif., Feb. 5, 2010 — Wind River has announced it will add the Virtutech product line to its embedded software product portfolio after the completion of Intel Corporation's acquisition of Virtutech signed earlier this week. Virtutech, founded in 1998, is based in San Jose, Calif. and operates a development center in Stockholm, Sweden.
