ESI Group, a leading innovator in virtual prototyping software and services for manufacturing industries, announces the new version of ESI NOVA 2022.0 is standalone utility for quick modeling of the response of layered poroelastic noise control treatments. NOVA 2022.0 Release Notes - Date: April 2022 Enhancements, Modifications & Corrections Enhancements
- The Scripts menu have been divided in two sections:
. The Scripts menu that contains functionalities to compute specific results or trends.
. The Micro-macros menu that contains material model based on their microstructure.
- The microstructure model for PU Foams has been updated and now includes a tool to make a quick evaluation of the sound absorption and transmission loss in air under normal incidence plane wave excitation.
- The microstructure model for Fibrous has been updated and now includes a tool to make a quick evaluation of the sound absorption and transmission loss in air under normal incidence plane wave excitation.
- The Frequency Dependence Library now contains Absorption and Transmission Loss spectrums. This new spectrum can be imported from Mecanum’s experimental data file from Tube-X, Alpha-X and TL-X (see Spectrums Library Import for more details). Users can also define values by hand in order to create target curves.
- A global import tool for Mecanum Tube-X File has been added to import once every admissible spectrums including Absorption spectrum, Transmission Loss spectrum and complex Transfer Matrix Components.
- Absorption and Transmission Loss spectrums can be display in respective Absorption and Transmission Loss graphs along solution set results.
- Acoustic Standard Ratings now include the Weighted Reduction Coefficient (RW) and the Sound Absorption Average (SAA) along the Sound Transmission Class (STC) and the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC).
- Acoustic Standard Ratings are automatically calculated at the end of the solution set computation if sufficient data are provided and presented in the solution set explorer tree under the Ratings branch.
- Acoustic Standard Ratings reference curves can be plotted in absorption and transmission loss graph for both solution set results and spectrums (right click feature in the graphs window). Each rating curve is displayed with the same color as the reference data and a specific line style then rating value is indicated in the legend.
- NOVA includes a Solution Set Report Generator. This new tool is designed to gather all data of a Solution Set from a NOVA Project to a XML spreadsheet file compatible with Excel (see Export to XML spreadsheet Report for more details).
Modifications
- The compact granular design parameters module has been removed from the design parameters library and moved to Micro-macros menu. Any defined compact granular design parameters from an old version of NOVA will be automatically converted to a porous design parameters in the library and will be remplaced in any multilayer that used this element to avoid any loss.
- Acoustic Standard Ratings (STC and NRC) can not be anymore plotted from the Graphic menu. They are now available directly using the right click feature on Absorption and Transmission Loss graphs windows.
- Due to some incompatibilities with Windows 11, the define Solution Set window is no longer resizable.
Corrections
- #NOVA-4: User’s guide update to indicate that transmission loss are also computed with Rain on the Roof excitation.
- #NOVA-8: User’s guide update to indicate that damping loss factor is computed in transmission loss and insertion loss problems for plane wave, diffuse field, piston motion, rain on the roof and TBL excitations.
- #NOVA-10: User’s guide update to confirm that quadratic velocity is not computed with piston motion excitation.
- #NOVA-20: User’s guide update to confirm that walls in double wall junctions include solid properties.
- #NOVA-21: User’s guide update to indicate that radiated power are also computed with monopole excitation.
- #NOVA-29: User’s guide update to add missing value in Test 8.
- #NOVA-30: Correction of some exportation errors of graph’s data (spectrums, scripts) to VA One (XML).
- #NOVA-31: Correction of some error with the activation of the auralization icon.
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples: User’s guide update to make correction of some errors with the figures displayed (Test 27-28-29).
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples - Test 31: User’s guide update to place correctly values in Table 48.
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples - Test 9: Inversion of the layer’s order in the multilayer. No impact on the transmission loss results.
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples - Test 17: Modification of the frequency domain in the example file.
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples - Test 18: Modification of the names of used elements (materials, properties, multilayers and solution sets) to better understand the test.
- Chapter 13 Validation Examples - Test 30: Modification of the names of used materials and defined microstructures to better understand the test.
NOVA is a multipurpose acoustics prediction tool based on the transfer matrix method (TMM). This method is essentially based on the representation of plane wave propagation in different media in terms of transfer matrices. This approach easily allows for multi-layers made up from a combination of elastic, porous-elastic and fluid layers.
