Simics Simulator 2021.16 Public Release Preview | 1.7 Gb The software developer Wind River is pleased to announce the availability of Simics Simulator 2021.16 Public Release Preview. A powerful simulation environment with the ability to simulate nearly anything, from a single chip to complex systems, providing powerful development and test capabilities. Introduced in 2002, the Linux-compatible Simics is a virtualized systems development (VSD) simulation platform that is widely used in multi-core processor and tools development. Electronic systems are becoming increasingly complex, with multiple processor architectures, multilayered software stacks, and more connectivity. With more connections comes additional security risk, which needs to be tested thoroughly. Compounding the challenge is the fact that developers have turned to DevOps and continuous development practices to meet customer and company expectations for quick deliveries. Such methodologies rely on fast iterations for test, feedback, and deployment. Collaborative and cross-functional teams need tools to communicate and share a common development baseline. Wind River Simics allows developers to have on-demand access to any target system at any time. It enables more efficient collaboration between developers and quality assurance teams. Simics provides an automation API, enabling organizations to reap the business benefits of DevOps and continuous development practices to create and deliver better, more secure software, faster—even for complex, embedded, connected, and large IoT systems. Intel has signed an agreement to acquire Virtutech, and Intel subsidiary Wind River added the Virtutech product line, including its Simics virtualization and simulation software, to an embedded software product portfolio that already includes Wind River Linux. Wind River sell and support Virtutech's Simics development platform as a stand-alone product and continue to support all current architectures, including ARM, Intel, MIPS, and PowerPC. Simics supports both Linux and Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS). What Can Simics Do For You? Learn how Simics enables development techniques that are simply not possible with physical hardware, enabling you to deliver better software faster.Wind River, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel Corporation, is a world leader in embedded and mobile software. Wind River has been pioneering computing inside embedded devices since 1981 and its technology is found in more than 500 million products. Wind River is headquartered in Alameda, Calif. with offices in more than 15 countries. Virtutech, Inc. is the leader in product development process improvement through virtualized systems development (VSD). Virtutech Simics allows for a revolutionary change in the product development process at a full system level rather than a component level and is a commercial solution that uniquely delivers the four most important criteria for successful deployment of hardware virtualization in the electronics equipment development process: speed, scalability, model availability, and control. Simics customers report reduced time to market, better project risk management, lower capital expenditure, product development cost and maintenance as well as increased quality and individual productivity. Virtutech serves the needs of the world’s leading OEMs in the high-performance computing, aerospace and defense, telecommunications, networking and semiconductor industries. Customers include Cisco, Ericsson, Freescale Semiconductor, GE Avionics, Honeywell, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Nortel and Northrop Grumman. Virtutech is an active participant in organizations to drive adoption of VSD such as ARM Connected Community, Eclipse.org, IBM PartnerWorld, Multicore Association, Power.org, OSCI and Spirit Consortium.
